Story: The Story We Tell Ourselves About Fitness

Most people have a story they tell themselves about fitness and our type of gym.
It usually starts with: “I just need to get in shape first.”

That story is built on years of bad experiences, the cheap gym membership that went unused, the diet that didn’t stick, the online program that looked good on Instagram but never felt right in real life.

They remember the intimidating gym full of mirrors and machines they didn’t know how to use. They remember feeling watched, confused, or left behind. They think, “Gyms are for people who already know what they’re doing.”

So they wait.
They wait to feel ready. They wait for motivation to show up like a lightning bolt. They wait for the “perfect time.”

And in that waiting, life happens. Energy drops. Weight creeps up. They age. Confidence fades.
The story becomes, “I’ve tried everything. Maybe this isn’t for me.”

At Progression Fitness, we’ve heard that story hundreds of times.
The truth? You haven’t failed fitness. Fitness has failed you, because most gyms aren’t built for real people, by invested staff.

They’re built to take your money and hope you don’t show up.
We’re built to do the exact opposite.

What We Believe at Progression Fitness

We believe fitness matters, not just for a few months, but for life. I wrote a book on it. It is the most important thing you can do with your time. Period.

We don’t chase fads, sell detoxes, or promise six-pack abs in 30 days.
We coach real people through real strength and conditioning programs that produce real results.

For about $200 a month, you’ll lose weight, get stronger, improve your energy, and rediscover what it feels like to be capable.

We believe in coaching, community, caring, and consistency, not gimmicks.
And we believe the people who show up, even when they don’t feel like it, become the kind of humans who can handle anything.

Fitness isn’t just about muscles.
It’s about integrity, confidence, and keeping promises to yourself, and therefor, to others.

You don’t have to be fit to start; you have to start with people who know how to get you there.

How We Do It

At Progression, we don’t guess. We coach.
Our system has been refined over 16 years of helping people transform their lives, from busy parents to retirees, from absolute beginners to advanced athletes.

Here’s how we do it:

1. The Right Environment

When you walk in, you’ll notice something different.
No mirrors. No headphones. No one staring at a phone between sets.
Just people moving, sweating, encouraging each other, and being coached by professionals who actually know your name and your goals.

Our gym is built for belonging. The kind of place where a beginner and a veteran athlete can train side by side and both walk out better than when they came in.

2. The Class Experience

Our core is group fitness done right, not random workouts, but structured programs designed to make you stronger, fitter, and more capable week after week.

We offer multiple class styles:

  • CrossFit: The foundation. Constantly varied, functional movements that develop strength, endurance, and power. Scalable for every fitness level. Yes, Grandma can do CrossFit when it is done right, the way it was originally intended.

  • REV: Think conditioning meets grit. Heart-pumping workouts that push your cardiovascular fitness and burn calories without complex lifts.

  • Kettlebell: Focused, efficient sessions to build muscle, improve stability, and develop functional power. Perfect for anyone looking to master movement and strength while also creating a powerful cardio engine.

  • Olympic Lifting: Technical coaching and skill refinement for athletes who love the barbell, led by some of the most experienced coaches in the region.

Each class is led by a certified coach who ensures you’re moving safely, pushing at the right intensity, and having fun while you do it.

3. Personal Training & Small Group Options

Not everyone starts in a class, and that’s okay.

For some, the best path begins with one-on-one personal training, where we build confidence, movement quality, and foundational strength.

Others prefer small group coaching, a middle ground between personal training and class energy. It’s personalized attention in a supportive mini-community of 3-5 people.

Whatever your comfort level or experience, we meet you where you are and build from there.

4. The Most Knowledgeable Coaching Staff in Town

This isn’t a part-time job for us. Coaching is our craft.
Our coaches hold certifications across CrossFit, USA Weightlifting, endurance training, mobility, nutrition, recovery, and, more importantly, they have years of real-world experience helping people like you.

We don’t hire “cheerleaders.” We hire teachers.
Our team knows when to push, when to adjust, and when to say, “You’ve got this.”

We take pride in being the most experienced, most educated, and most caring coaching staff in Rochester.

That’s not a tagline, it’s our reality.

5. Accountability and Progress Tracking

The biggest difference between a regular gym and Progression is accountability.
When you don’t show up, we notice. When you hit a milestone, we celebrate.
We measure progress in strength numbers, endurance improvements, and quality of life, not just the scale.

You’ll see and feel results. Your clothes fit better. You move easier. You sleep deeper. You start to carry yourself differently because you’ve earned confidence through action.

6. Nutrition and Recovery Guidance

Training is only part of the equation.
We help our members understand what to eat, how to recover, and how to build habits that last.
No extreme diets or quick fixes, just sustainable changes that fit your lifestyle.

We teach you how to eat to fuel your workouts and your life, not just to survive another 30-day challenge.

Real People. Real Results.

Our community is full of transformation stories, physical and emotional.

These aren’t professional athletes. They’re regular people, just like you, who chose to start, show up, and keep going. It really is that easy. Start, show up, keep going.

One of my favorite things is helping people who say that they can’t do what I do at my gym see that they can. That is as easy as letting them watch a class. When they see how our classes run and who is in class, they can see themselves doing it as well.
