Group Power!

The Hidden Power of Fitness and Mentoring Groups

Why We Need Each Other

I’m in Chicago this weekend at the Two-Brain Business Summit. As an introvert, these kinds of events can be tough. I feel more at home in small groups or just by myself. But even though it’s out of my comfort zone, I keep returning. I’ve been here nearly every year for the past seven years, and every time, I walk away with real insights and steps to improve my business—and my life.

For me, it’s the same story with the gym. I’ve made the most significant improvements in my health and fitness when I’ve trained in a group. When I try to do it on my own, I don’t work as hard or show up as consistently.

And I know I’m not alone in that. Hundreds of gym members have told me the same.

Whether you're trying to get stronger, build a business, or stay on track, one thing becomes clear: you go further with a group. Research backs this up. Group settings help you stick with your goals, push harder, and feel better.

Why Group Fitness Works

Built In Accountability

It’s easy to skip a workout when no one’s watching. But you show up when your gym buddies are expecting you, or your name on the whiteboard. That kind of social accountability is one of the biggest reasons people stick with fitness when it’s done in a group.

Motivation Feeds Off Each Other

The energy of a group can be contagious. You might come in tired, but once the music is up and others are pushing, you find yourself pushing too. Studies show that group fitness members report less stress and better overall health than solo exercisers.

It’s Good for Your Head Too

Group fitness isn’t just about the physical side. Being part of a community—high fives, shared struggles, laughs after a hard workout—can ease stress, boost your mood, and build mental resilience.

The Magic of Group Mentoring

Learn From Real People

In group mentoring, you don’t just learn from one person but from everyone in the room. People share their wins, their struggles, and their honest questions. That kind of open exchange creates a powerful learning environment.

You’re Not Alone

Everyone feels stuck sometimes. Being in a group of people working through similar things makes you feel seen and supported. And you’ll be surprised how often your struggle is someone else’s, too.

It’s Efficient and Effective

Group mentoring also makes good use of time and resources. One coach or leader can guide a group, and the participants support each other. It’s scalable, sustainable, and it works.

Where Fitness Meets Mentorship

Some of the best results happen when physical activity and personal development are combined. Fundamental transformation takes shape when people move together, whether that's a walk, a workout, or a group challenge, and also take time to talk about life, goals, or mindset.

Why? Fitness breaks down walls. Moving together builds connection. Shared effort creates trust, which opens the door to meaningful conversation and lasting change.

How to Get Started

Find a Group: Join a fitness class or a local walking club. Ask your gym if they run accountability groups or challenges. Look online for coaching communities or mentorship circles.

Or Start Your Own: Grab a couple of friends and commit to a regular workout together. Add 10–15 minutes to discuss goals, challenges, or progress. Use group texts or a shared calendar to stay connected and on track.

You Don’t Have to Do This Alone

It’s easy to think we should be able to do it all by ourselves. But the truth? None of us thrives in isolation.

Whether you want to get in shape, grow a business, or stay motivated, having a group makes the journey better, more fun, more effective, and more human.

So, if you’ve been going it alone, here’s a tip: Be patient with your journey. It may take a while to find the right group and for you to feel comfortable in any group. Try to stick with it for a while and see if your thoughts and comfort level change as you get to know the people in your group.

If that fails, you be the one who starts the group. Invite people you are already comfortable with and get after it.

You’ll be stronger, together.
